Illustrious Unknowns Project:
There are those who are put in books, the beautiful, the official, the well-dressed... and then there are the others. The real ones sometimes. Those who spent their lives creating, inventing, dreaming, building, painting, tinkering, creating without asking anyone's permission. No grand statue, no boulevard, no speeches with canapés. Nothing. Silence.
Audrey Fléchet wants to seek out these magnificent forgotten ones. The Marcel Bascoulards, the Pierre Avezards, the Jean Linards, all these bruised, brilliant, unruly beings, who left behind entire worlds without receiving the honors that usually accompany them.
So she gives them back a face. In bronze. Heavy, solid, enduring.
A bust for those who were not looked at enough. Not to create more heroes, but to somewhat repair the injustice of time.
The "Illustrious Unknowns" is a gallery of faces, geniuses, dreamers, and stubborn people. Those who did not receive honors... but who perhaps deserved them more than others.
Because ultimately, posterity is often a real lottery. And Audrey Fléchet has decided to slightly rig the drawing.
I. The Bronze Wanderer
Inauguration of an ornamental bronze dedicated to Marcel Bascoulard, a free spirit, a street walker, a leashless dreamer, a friend of stones, cats, and silences.
This took place at Place Marcel Bascoulard, on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
We gathered there as we do for good times... a little moved, a little proud, with hearts beating beneath our jackets.
This work, graciously presented to the commune by Audrey Fléchet and Fonderie du Champ Bon, now adorns the stele offered by the Association of Friends of Marcel Bascoulard and Cats.
A bronze for memory...
but living, solid, planted there to last when the rest of us are gone.
A fitting tribute: simple, frank, standing tall.
To see.
To salute.
To remember.
And to give back to Marcel Bascoulard a little of what he left in our streets, in our eyes, in the wind here.
Over 140 people attended the inauguration of Marcel Bascoulard's bust; six original works were on display. Many thanks to the collector who graciously loaned these magnificent drawings.
