He awakens gently, the old plantigrade... Not a king's awakening, no... rather that of beasts who have never needed a watch to know that the world is beginning anew. He opens one eye, then the other... he yawns like a cracking mountain... his whole body creaks a little from winter, from dreams, from time that has clung to his fur. Nothing is urgent. The sun can wait a moment longer. The forest, for its part, knows patience. Men chase after hours; he, he lets them pass like leaves in the current. He remains there, sitting on his rear, massive, tranquil. Then, with an almost imperceptible breath, he stretches, looks at the world like an old friend who has returned unannounced, and takes his place among the trees, immense, peaceful... finally awake.
